another weird issue..
for some reason all version of gallery2 that i installed on my server w/ php5 crashes my apache or maybe php itself
if i use php4 then everythin works fine..
i first thought maybe gallery2 doesn't support php5 yet.. but my brother he installed it on his server and it works fine there with php5
thats when i decided to write here
we both use freebsd-5.x w/ apache2.x and w/ php5
any ideas?

what version of php5? make sure it's fairly recent, as some older buggy php5's will have problems with an application as complex as G2.

can you describe what you are doing when it crashes (or is it random)? Also, what version of MySQL? I had one instance of PHP5/MySQL 5.0.1 that was crashing and one instance where having array_keys() inside foreach loop was crashing Apache. Other than that I am using PHP5 (currently 5.0.2 and 5.0.3) on three boxes (XP/Apache2/MySQL 5, W2K/Apache2/MySQL 4.1, and RedHat /Apache1/MySQL 4) with no problems.

I have the same issue.
It works great when using PHP 4.4.9, but when I move everything over to my PHP5 enabled server, nothing works. I made a duplicate server (VMWare ROCKS) and upgraded it to PHP5.2.9 and it takes a complete crap.
Is there some config file that needs to be updated to tell it that I am running on 5 instead of 4?
I need to get a new app up and running that requires 5.2.x soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine works just fine with PHP 5.2.11, MySQL 5.0.86 and APACHE 2.0.52-41 without any special intervention.

Same here. My host upgraded from PHP 4 to 5 and I didn't even notice, everything just kept working.
gamecharmer, please start a new thread (this one is almost 5 years old) and post your system information:
FAQ: What information is required when I ask for help in the forums?
Or my first thing is going to be to check what version you're running. Make sure you're running Gallery 2.3 first.

I had the entire thread ready to go when I got a message from my hosting provider. They were having issues with transitioning, but have everything fixed finally. It works GREAT!!! Thanks for the help.
It has been down for 4 months now, lol. I'm up and working great. If you want to check out my gallery, it is located at http://mudgrinders.com
