block random not working in new gallery

Hey guys, wondering if anyone could help me out here.

I had my gallery nicely customised with a lot of help from a friend. To cut a long story short, I ended up having to upgrade the gallery and i lost all of the customized work. So now i'm in the process of rebuilding it all.

Anyway... i'm using v1.4.4-pl4 and the block random just ain't working. The only thing that i can notice that is different is that most peoples' galleries are www.example.com/gallery, whereas mine is just www.example.com.

I thought that the random block would work using: http://john.stuwee.org/block-random.php but it just keeps giving me a "this page cannot be displayed".

Any suggestions?

I notice that you have 1900+ pictures on the site. On site with 1200 PHP I ran out of memory (8M) set at the default while the script was running to produce the dat file for the images.

Just a thought.
