Keeping G2 update to latest CVS

Is there a way to keep G2 up to date with the lastest CVS version without having to install from scratch everytime?

1. update from cvs
2. visit any page.. if core upgrade is needed, you'll be sent to the upgrader
3. if core upgrade not needed, then visit site admin /modules and see if any modules you use have an "upgrade" link.. upgrade and reactivate those.
