Hello All,
I was running into this error below, and couldn't figure it. I spent a LONG time searching for an answer since the references in the message and Gallery FAQ to fix this relate to Linux/Unix folks. Not very helpful for Windows users. So, 2 suggestions:
---------------------------------------------
1. FAQ for Windows Users
Error Message:
You may need to set LimitRequestBody 16777216 and memory_limit = 64M in /etc/php.ini and /etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf on your Gallery server
Suggestion for New FAQ:
Windows users running Apache, edit your php.ini file with the following:
upload_max_filesize = 20M
memory_limit = 64M
--------------------------------------
2. Update the Gallery configuration with a larger upload maximum or warn users about this.
Update the php.ini to include a larger upload maximum such as 20MB.
Example: upload_max_filesize = 20M
--------------------------------------
Thanks,
-Ben

None of this is Windows specific. Please add this as a user contribued note to the faq item or the docs section, and it will be included in the next documentation upgrade. Thanks.

Hello h0bbel,
I did. Thanks.
Also, it's not Windows specific? The error message stated paths that are incorrect for my Windows installation. php.conf does not exist on my Windows installation. And the request in the FAQ below to change "LimitRequestBody 16777216" is not correct for Windows users. Hence, why us Windows users need an FAQ on it. Is this not correct?
C.6. Why can't I upload big files (over a megabyte or two)?

bserebin, right. But the settings are not Windows specific, and will have the same effect on other operating systems

Hello h0bbel,
The problem is the wording of the error message is Unix/Linux specific. It should be more platform universal. Hence, why I want a FAQ to assist Windows users and clarify that "LimitRequestBody" is not necessary or even better yet to update the error message.
The error message shouldn't include paths, and it should contain "or php.conf" since us Windows users don't have that. And the message should include a message to increase the "upload_max_filesize".

bserebin, I agree on the PHP settings. But those settings being totally OS independant, does not warrant a seperate Windows section.
As for php.conf, some Linux systems have that, not all. I agree that the FAQ item is poorly written, and your suggestions will be taken into consideration at the text documentation overhaul.
Thanks again.

Hello h0bbel,
Keep up the good work. Not sure how you have time to squeeze in your job during your work day on Gallery. ;-)
