I noticed that the index.php page is never actually called on from the gallery prog, or at least i have never found where it does inat least the last few vers of gallery. If you go straight to yoursite/gallery/albums.php on your site, and go into an album and you try to nav back to the main gallery page, it takes you back to albums.php, not index.php. On my site i overwwrote the index.php with my own "welcome to my gallery, dont do this, do that etc blah blah html file and then linked to albums.php. I dont know if this is even considered a 'bug' or not. But i guess it can be considered a customization.

Well, scanning the file again real quick shows that it does checks and some
extra configuration if you are running the embedded version of gallery in
nuke/postnuke. So if you run like this, I wouldn't recommend changing it.

If you are running standalone, you are correct in that all it does is include the
albums.php file and render it, so you could setup your own custom splash-screen
in this case.
