I'm having this same problem with clicking on thumbnails and being directed to the same album page.
However I've narrowed down the problem: I set the permissions on most of my albums such that only logged in users may view the full-sized original images. In 1.4.x this worked fine - logged in users could look at the full images and everyone else the resized versions. But after upgrading to 1.5 this no longer is the case.
With the logged in users only allowed to view the full images, if an image does not have a resized version, i.e. it is smaller than the resized value, then it can not be view by anyone who is not logged in. Seems that Gallery 1.5 is now taking a very literal stance with permissions. Hopes this helps the developers with this issue more.

That's very interesting. I haven't tried that yet myself. My problems although are generating errors from the server, seem to also depend on the browser being used.
UPDATE: I got the setup error cleared and now am all green. This make NO DIFFERENCE. Same problems as before!!
I hope somebody can figure this out. I asked the developers about where the errors come from so maybe I could do some more troubleshooting. They blamed my browser and I heard nothing else.
I know that the problem only occurs on MOST browsers and not all. But I also know that the errors are being generated from the server and it would be nice to know how they're triggered.
more to come, I'm sure...

I'm reposting my server logs in the hope that somebody will see something here.
SERVER LOGS for thumbnail problem where clicking thumbnail refuses to load larger image.
These are the logs from when I get the Fatal Error when trying to delete. In FireFox there's one line for this action when the popup window comes. But in IE, two more lines with come up for the calling of two style sheets. This tells me nothing other than the two browsers are behaving different for some reason.
NOTE: IE for Mac is behaving identically to IE for Windows.
I hope someone can see something I'm missing here.
Thank-you.

I just finished installing Gallery and uploading some test photos. When I click on the thumbnail, the page just reloads itself. I've seen other people's galleries here and I know that I'm supposed to go to the page for the photo. But in mine it just reloads the page of thumbnails. I can play the slideshows so I know that larger files are there. I checked through the configuration line by line and don't see anything that could disable this basic feature.
I've run into a similar problem. My friend upgraded his version to 1.5 today and had issues for clicking on the thumbnail and nothing happening. On the other hand, I upgraded mine a couple of days ago and had no issues at all.
For some reason he could veiw the files when he was logged in as admin, but both of us couldn't if we were just viewing as guests.
The fix for him at any rate was to set the permissions for "Users who can view full (original) images" to EVERYBODY instead of LOGGEDIN. Now we can see the photos. Wanted to register this so anyone who may have this same problem will at least be able to possibly fix their issues. Good Luck.
Keep up the good work on the gallery project.

My errors are all related since they either all occur in one system and browser or everything works in another system. I've got detailed results from 4 PCs, 3 Macs, 1 PC emulator, Win 98SE, XP, FireFox, Mac OS X, Mac OS 9, Explorer for every platform, etc. I have about a 75% failure rate. That is 75% of the browsers across all these systems demonstrate with 100% repeatability these problems.
The problem you describe seems to be completely different.
All permissions are set to allow guests to view anything and always have been.
I'm hoping someone can tell me why I'm seeing difference in the server logs when I use different browsers. What are the browsers doing to cause this?? And I'm sure there is also something wrong with my installation becuase I can view other people's Gallery installations without these errors.
It doesn't seem like the developers here are very interested in this problem. I think that solving this would help others here and I'm willing to donate my time with further experimenting. I can't do it alone.

It was the same issue (as described above) that he was having. All he was able to do was view the thumbnails, and when you clicked on the thumbnail, the page would reload back to the thumbnails.
All I wanted to do was post a possible fix that may help other people that may have a similar issue.

Sorry if you think I'm dismissing you. Please read through my entire thread to see that your solution just does not apply to what is happening here.
My permissions are fine and the owner of my photos cannot delete the photo either. I think that even though we both share some of the same symptoms, we have two different problems none the less.
I have tried three different installations of three versions of Gallery and my problems have been there consistantly since day one.
So although you have a suggestion for people that can't view the larger photo, it doesn't seem to be related to this situation.
Thank-you very much anyway... I'm looking at everything.

Can someone please post or send me a copy of their WORKING php.ini file.
From research elsewhere, I'm thinking the problems are php related.... something with my specific server's php settings that crop up only when certain browsers are used.
So if you're somebody that does NOT have my issues and are using a standalone version of Gallery in an Apache/Linux environment, please send me your PHP.INI file for comparison.
THANK-YOU.

Any joy with this problem? I get almost exactly the same symptoms on my (2) Macs.
Firefox just reloads the thumbnail page and gets the file deletion error, while Safari, IE, Mozilla, Opera and (under Virtual PC - Firefox, Mozilla and IE6) can view the images and delete images. All pretty standard, up to date browsers.
I've retraced many of the suggested fixes (the ones available to me) to no avail.
To me, it definitely looks like an issue with rewritten urls and the way some browsers are handling them. It would explain the server generated errors inasmuch as the url the browser is passing back is probably incorrect/incomplete, just the manifestation of the problem is more dramatic.

sparky672, OH BOY!!! I don't want to speak too soon, but I have just tried something that worked! You see, although you described exactly the same symptoms as I was having in Mac Firefox, I had no problems with your gallery.
Got me thinking what could be different... cookies!!!
Sure enough, I checked that the problem was still occuring on my album, then deleted the cookies associated with the pages (there was one session cookie and another with an expiry in 2035). Immediately, the problem vanished.
I don't know what sets that second cookie, or if it will return, but for now, it seems to have fixed most of my problems, including the 'delete photo' problem.
I hope it's a fix for you and possibly sheds some light on the source of these problems.
