I belong to a digital photography group of about 700 on yahoogroups. We've moved our photos from yahoo to a Gallery site, and now we want to move the rest of the functionality.

Basically, we need a message board system with an email gateway, or a mailing list system with a bulletin board front end. So users can treat it like a mailing list, bulletin board or use it both ways.

Gallery integration would be nice. Nicer would be if we can take an existing user list in gallery, and use that for the bulletin board.

I've been looking at phpBB2, which might do the trick but that will require adding an email gateway and moving the user names from gallery to phpBB2.

Any suggestions? I am quite happy to hack for what I need (see the User Guide/Add ons/Adding multiple users in bulk).

You might look at the phpBB - Gallery integration done by snailsource as shown at this site:

http://www.aquariumadvice.com/

phpBB has an active community of programmers, and is very easy to mod new features into it. I don't have my new site up and on-line yet, but I finished the phpBB - Gallery integration in about 30 minutes last night.

I was really impressed. The SnailSource FAQ and support board on this integration is at http://www.snailsource.com/

Hi Joan,

This sort of functionality is on my "to do" / "wish" list and there's been some discussion on the phpbb.com forum about it... All in all it should be possible but the big issue is security as the only way to verify someones identity is going to be through their email address if they're emailing their posts/responses in..

We have a yahoo! groups account with many photos we'd like to move to our new gallery, but we don't want to have to do it one at a time. How did you move your photos?

Thanks,
Lindsay

We didn't. We just started uploading to Gallery.

Gettiing images from yahoo would be quite a job. You have to write a webcrawler, I think.
