I am trying to figure out what is going on.

I have several albums that have been moved from another server.

I cannot get the click counts to work.

So .. I set up a new test server ...
uploaded the newest code (pl6) ...
didn't modify anything (except just to get it running)
transfered a album over ...
click counts don't work
create a new album ..
click counts work in the new album ...

Any suggestions ??

You could try Chmod'ing the gallery to 777 or 770 so the new server can read the files.

Everything is working except the counters ... we can add photos ... view them everthing

I did set them to 777 ... just to make sure ... didn't make any difference

Got the same thing, running v1.4.4-pl6. Just upgraded from v1.3.x and now all my click-counters shows "1" and doesn't increment.

Does this mean that I need to install language packs to get my counters to work ??

BobcatASL, not if you don't have any installed before you upgraded. Which version did you upgrade from?

We have our main site on http://www.hyatt-family.com/gallery/ ... it is and always has been on 1.4.4 pl4 (customized)

On my test server ... I installed a fresh install of 1.4.4 pl6 and tried to move some albums over to see if I had done something when I customized the albums ...

I have the same problem on both servers ...

anything suspicious is your apache error_logs?

From the error logs in cpanel ... nothing ...

does this reflect the apache logs that you are talking about or
do I need to look elsewhere ?

You might not have the error_logs then, probably just the access_logs

Okay ... after checking with tech support ... they told me how to get the apache logs ... what would I be looking for ?

After working with my host to get access to it ... (for some reason it wasn't showing up) ....

I got no error messages going in and out of the album but it still doesn't update the count.

I have entered a bad page name ... just to make sure that the error log is working and it shows up.

Any other suggestions ?

This is strange.

The counter works in the first album ("this is test2") but not in the album below.

Maybe its a gallery permission/settings issue.

Like the counter is disabled inside the album, but displayed on first page.

I will investigate.

Any new albums (the first album) the counter works.

Any of the old albums ... they don't.

We have many other albums that are doing the same thing ... I just don't have them all on the test server (limited space).

Thanks for checking on this ... its been driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

I have confirmed that the same exact behavior occurs in both my main site (customized) and in a default install of pl6 ... I haven't been able to get 1.5 rc1 working yet ... I wanted to see if it still had the same problem but I get the following error on it.

We're experiencing the same exact problem after moving a pl4 album directory over to an pl6 installation. New album counters work fine. Old ones remain at what they were before the upgrade. Albums directory has permissions 777. ML_Mode is 1. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Anyone have any idea what to try ??

THere is nothing in the error logs ...

I can duplicate this everywhere ... both on my main server and a test server.

I really would like to get this working.

When you login as admin (or whatever) and go into the properties of the albums not getting counted, is Display click counter for this album? set to Yes?

Just double checked it ... and yes they are ...

IT displays them but they never change the count.

We have one album that is a public album so ... if you would like ..

I can try that on the test server .... but if I remember right .. I think I already tried that with a no go ... but I've been away from this problem for a little while ... 4 kids ... what can I say.

I have copied one album over and it still doesn't increase the click counts.

Any suggestions ??

I'm sure someone has already suggested permissions? Can you upload images to the gallery? Create new albums? Just copying over an existing album isn't much of a test to see if the gallery is working.

Yes ... gallery works well ... except for the click counts.

I just copied the album over because they suggested trying pl6 and didn't want to do it on my main server ... (didn't have the time to customize it).

I've found the reason behind my albums not counting any higher.

The album.dat format must have changed lately. Mainly there is a new entry called "guid". If this field is copied from an album's, with a working counter, album.dat file, it appears to fix the problem.

I'll start working on a script to fix the albums.. hopefully the gurus solve the root of the problem before it's done.

Did gallery never ask you to run the album/image upgrade script?

Try bumping your album version found in Version.php by 1 and it should make you run the album upgrader.

increasing the album version does run the update script, but doesn't solve the problem. hmmmmm.

it does seem to add the guid field to the dat files. albums created with the current installation still count hits.. old albums don't.

I tired the upgrading the number ... but it seems to be complaing about not being able to open photos.dat.x

Any ideas ?

I don't believe that is the problem.

Permissions are already set.

The files that it is asking for don't exist.

I finally have a solution ....

In a unmodified install of gallery ... if I turn off the display clicks ... then turn them back on ... it works.

My wfie had found a gallery modification ... Edit Appearance ... and with that installed ... I cannot turn the click counter on/off.

Here is the feature of this modification that is important to my wife ....

This mod was created to provide visual clues of available colors when considering changes of album text, link and background elements. It changes edit_appearance.php to provide the user with a popup color pallet. When a color is clicked the value representing that color will be automatically inserted into the corresponding input box.

Anyone know how to make this work in any of the current versions of gallery ?

I think it is for 1.4.4pl6. Let me know if it does not work and I will update it and will put it on the list of things to do for 1.5 when it is done.

Very nice feature with the palette. Have seen that in other Apps like horde etc.

Floridave: can you write me an email or make an RFE for the palette thing. So i wont forget to implement into 1.5.1
