The Italian NIC issued a survey before refurbishing
their web site. Today they posted the results, which
contain one point relevant to i18n. I report that and
compare it with how I installed Gallery.

The Italian NIC got 383 answers, 97.9% from Italian ISPs.
Since they are responsible for the .it ccTLD, one of the
questions was if it is important to have their site available
in more languages. The answers have been:

Quote:
79.9% Italian and English is enough.
15.1% Also in other EU languages.
4.7% Don't know.
0.3% No answer.

Personally, I have one page in 5 languages, some sites in IT+EN
and the rest IT only. When I downloaded Gallery, I only got the
en_US and it_IT po files. To be able to run Gallery in bilingual
sites I had to patch it so that some fields, captions, comments,
and extra fields named ~ 'lf_.*' (for language field), are stored
as a language indexed array. For captions, if the current language
caption isn't available, the one for the default language is delivered.

Yes, that way visitors never see foreign comments. Perhaps, a
better approach would be to deliver comments written in any of
the languages that their browsers accept.

Does the above match your concepts of i18n?
