Login Remember Me feature

I have searched and keep coming up empty handed.
I am looking for a way, so that after a user logs in they stay logged in forever or until they log out. Even if their computer is restarted or they close their browser, I would like them to stay logged in. Of course if they deleted cookies this would cause them to need to log in again. I am guessing it has something to do with the cookie Gallery sets, but I am unsure how to change it. Right now when a user closes their browser or restarts, they must login again. It would be a similar feature to the, remember me, option for these forums. What is the best way to go about this?
