G2<->phpbb 2.3 (dev version of 3.0, formerly 2.2) is in the works
G2<->mambo is also in development, not finished though.
If I wanted to integrate mambo, phpbb and G2, I would choose a master (mambo) and try to embed each of the other applications with this master.
So what you are looking for is
a)
mambo<->phpbb integration -> search in the mambo forums
and
b)
mambo<->G2 integration -> is in development, needs still a lot of work.

My worry is that one integration might screw the other. Let's say I integrate mambo and phpbb, the integrating might make changes to the way mambo manages logins, sessions, etc..
Then when I integrate with gallery, it might change it completely. Than the other integration won't work.

We can do nothing about it. With the G2 <-> x (mambo, postnuke, xaraya, phpbb, ...) we're trying to interfere minimally with either application. All we do is add functionality, not change functionality.
So, if there will be problems, then because mambo<->phpbb changes something radicalliy in mambo.
Integrating the three applications has more todo with mambo. I'd recommend to ask these questions in the mambo forums. All we can do is guarantee, that the G2 integration won't screw up things in mambo you'd need for a phpbb integration.
I'd heavily recommend using SMF instead of phpBB if it's possible. SMF is more secure, easily customized, has every option you need and has an excellent working bridge with Mambo. Chances are that Mambo + G2 + SMF will happen sooner than phpBB integration. Take care.

d3vlabs, see my other answer from today.
this forum + CMS topic should be discussed in the phpbb/smf/fudforum/vb/... forums or in the CMS' forums.
once you have a CMS+forum integration, and would like G2 to the other two, then we can check out if there could arise problems.

Actually I posted just to state that in my eyes SMF > phpBB by abilities and security. Integration was only on the side of my mind.
