Date last changed sort issue

I'm finding that the date last changed sort option doesn't work right for me. I have 6 high level albums, and each of those high level albums has multiple sub-albums. My main album is set to sort by date last changed, and the sub albums to that are all set to sort by origination date. One of my top level albums is Trips, which I just added a new sub album to. When I do this, how can I make the trips album be the first album in my main one automatically.

If that is hard to understand, I think I just want the album holding the newest item first - wether the newest item is in a subalbum, is a picture, or whatever. Is this possible?

it's on our task list to make adding items/subalbums affect the modified date of the parent album.. we have some locking issues to resolve before we can do this.
