First of all, big kudos to all the developers who have worked so hard on this great piece of software.
I've just upgraded to the latest nightly (Mar 16) from an Alpha 4 nightly and am ready to start customizing my G2. For me, the default Matrix theme has too much clutter which, IMO, distracts from the pictures. In particular, I want to remove the left sidebar as well as the drop-down menus that sit below each thumbnail. However, I ONLY want this for the general public. As an administrator, I want to be able to access the functionality in the drop-down menus. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks,
Roger

I know you can do that. In fact I saw how a couple days ago but since then I lost which thread it was in. My advice would be to wait a week or so. It looks like Mindless is making some changes with Themes. Since the comments I see on the changelog says part 1 it makes me think he's not done yet. Maybe he'll chime in here (or under a new thread) and briefly describe what he's doing and if the changes he is making is drastic enough to break everyones themes and layouts.

yup, i'll be posting about it... (yes, it will require some updates to custom themes and layouts)
bharat just posted recently about the hacky way to hide things from guests.. i suggest searching for that post.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll pass on the hacky way for now and wait until Mindless' changes are implemented.

Another vote for exactly this.
I'd like to be able to hide drop down menus, side bar, and other image sizes (first in list of resizes can display) from menu items.
Also, would love to have exif data be admin only, another cluttering item for new folks.
An ability to change this globally (ie, set theme defaults of no side bar) would be great.
The other global item I'd love to be able to set via theme/layout is default thumbnail size and image size (800x800 in my case).
Finally, when thumbnail sizes are changed for albums (to 200), they remain 150 for the album thumbnails in the top level, which is odd, but of course, there are no "album" permission for the top level.
I did some hacky work to clean it up and it already is looking great!

new albums inherit thumb/resize sizes from the parent album, so if you set it up at the top level to start with then all albums will get those sizes.
what do you mean there are no "album" permission for the top level? the top level is an album like any other.. do "edit album" and set the thumbnail size in the Album tab..
