Unable to communicate with the database

The config file appear to be modified, because the modified date and time changes, but there is nothing being written to the file...it is 0 bytes and it is blank.

This is all of the error info available. Also this is using the lastest CVS files from the link contained within the forum posts.

This error is occuring during step 7 Install Gallery Core. The MySQL database is empty except for the database I created for Gallery 2 (g2).

Can anyone help?

Could it be that your /g2data directory is not clean?

I don't think so because the install program just created the directories though there is nothing in them

the config.php step said it was successful? obviously config.php should not be empty. did step 2 report any missing or modified files?

Config file created successfully.

This is the message I get during or actially after completing step 6 of the installation process. It is set to 777 to insure that the file can be written to.

Am I missing something?

yes, my second question.

i suggest starting from scratch (empty db, g2data, click "start over" in installer or clear cookies and restart installer).. if you see the same behavior you can PM me ssh/ftp access to your server and i can debug..

I apologize for missing that. I have deleted the g2 db, the g2data directory, cleared my cookies and clicked start over in the installed, yet I yielded the same results. (Config file continues to have an updated date and time modified, yet nothing is still being written to it.)

During step 2 of the install I do get a warning about "252 modified files" though it says nothing about any missing files and I did not modify anything myself.

I will PM you with FTP access so you can attempt to debug. I appreciate your help.

your PHP is not functioning correctly. i've left a file called test.php in your gallery2 directory, with this:

  error_reporting(E_ALL);
  if (!($out = fopen('config.php', 'w'))) { print "fopen failed\n"; }
  else {
    $cnt = fwrite($out, "this is a test\n");
    print "wrote $cnt bytes.\n";
    fclose($out);
  }
?>Done.

show this to your webhost and ask them why it doesn't work (make sure to explain config.php does exist and has full permissions)..
