Installed Gallery 2 Dark Fibre a couple of weeks ago to try and test out, and it seems to be running alot slower then Gallery 1. I was wondering if this is because now the images get loaded into memory and then displayed (i'm guessing this is how its done to protect direct linking to images)? Is it supposed to be slower? Or is there something wrong going on my system? The whole site is running fine, and 90% of it uses database for background processing, so i really doubt its the db issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Igor

G2 is slower than G1 (for small to medium galleries), but there are also known installations, where G2 was very slow on a super fast server, but a strange/uncommon setup was probably the cause.

your setup sounds fairly common. but you didn't say something about the hardware. also, installing a php accelerator/cache (PHPA or turk mm cache) will speed up G2 considerably.

Hardware: Celeron 450 processor (i believe) and 256MB RAM

I'll try installing a php cache and see if that helps. I was just confused as to maybe something on my machine was not runnign right. Thanks for clearing this up!

your machine is certainly at the lower end of G2 requirements. more ram, faster cpu would be good. but first check the performance of the current nightly snapshot with a php accelerator. since beta 1, there was a certain performance improvement for public viewable pictures and another improvement is due very soon.
