not as theme, more as a layout. but yes, this should be possible with G2. but someone has to code the swf/actionscript.

To get this done right who ever wanted it would have to pay $45 to the author to get the source code then modify it to work for G2 and then they can use it, but they wouldn't legally be able to give it to anyone else. The other way would be to have g2 generate a xml file and copy all the images to the images folder. I don't think that would be a good way to go though because it will slow g2 down. Maybe there are other flash viewers that would be better.

I think I might have found a site where they are already using the PostcardViewer with gallery2
but I cant work out how they have done it

That's just the postcard viewer itself. The user named the folder the files are in "gallery2". I had a heck of time figuring out how to embed the postcard viewer into Wordpress.
