I am having an issue with highlighting photos/albums in G2. It was happening in beta 1 and is also doing the same thing in beta 2.

Selecting an item to make it the album highlight causes the image that is already the highlight to become the highlite of the grandparent. If the image is in an album with no sub-albums, the selected image will become the highlight of the parenat AND the grandparent. It also sends you to the top-most gallery after verifying the highlite selection. This is the third install of G2 that I have done on this particular server. I import a set of 1.4.4 albums after install. I have debugging turned on but get no data to share with you all. My other installation with no imported albums does not have this issue. Any ideas? Is it possibly a folder permission issue? Or more likely a corrupted 1.4 install? I'm stumped at this point.

Spockman, please fill out the support template. It might also be useful to see your G1 and G2. Please feel free to email me any information that you don't want to make available to the general public.

I added a new folder and two images and tried to highlight the second image. It did exactly what you said, which makes this presumably not a migration issue. It's kind of weird. Okay, very weird.

We try to ensure that every album has a thumbnail. So if/when you fix the highlight in a sub-album, we walk back up the parent albums and make sure that each of them has a highlight, and if it doesn't then we give it one. It sounds like you don't want that to happen?

It didn't update the highlight when I tried it, just dumped out to the root. I didn't play around with it too much after that.

And I think that this has to do with changing the highlight, not adding the first item into an album.

That is correct. The albums in question (which is all of them at this point) have a thumb highlight. When one attempts to change the highlight for an album, the parent or grandparent changes (if anything) and then you get "dumped to the root," as Mr. Mullan stated. I know that if the existing thumb/highlight were the highlight of the parent, the parent would normally change also, but this is not the case. Each album and sub-album has a different highlight to start. If it's frustrating for me as the admin, it's going to be intolerable for my users. They've already freaked out about the change in the way it all looks.

Ok. Sounds like a bug to me. Would you please file it on sourceforge.net/projects/gallery so that we can track it and fix it? Thanks!

you can PM me ssh/ftp access and a G2 login if you'd like me to take a look.. i guess jmullan stopped after determining it's not a migrate bug?

Well, I am now totally confused. I did a backup of the gallery toaday and now it's working properly. I am now thinking it was an issue on the host side. They did an upgrade of the kernal on the database servers yesterday and that is the only change that has been made since this all started. Sorry for the fuss!
