Thought to report this abberation...

Installed G2 beta 1 and 2 (separately) onto a Linux 7.3 box with Apache 2.#, MySQL 4.1 and PHP 4.1. Worked like a charm.

For grins I have tried the same install onto a Mac OS X 10.2 server. It is running several Postnuke sites, Gallery 1.#, no problem. However trying to install the same G2 beta 2, it repeatedly fails at step "System Checks - Gallery file integrity". Beta 1 reports 144 files missing, and beta 2 reports 155 files missing. Naturally, cannot proceed.

I repeated the install with the same tarball on the RH 7.3 system and it worked like a charm. I even untarred and retarred the file structure and copied it to the OS X box thinking there was something munged up with tar on the OS X box. Same result. I'd post the results, but here is a snippet instead of the 155 lines:

Gallery file integrity
Warning
- Missing files (155)
...age/DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/mysql/GalleryComment.sql
...ge/DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/oracle/GalleryComment.sql
...Storage/DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/postgres/GNUmakefile
.../DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/postgres/GalleryComment.sql
...atabaseStorage/schema/platform/mysql/A_GalleryEntity_1.0.sql
...DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/mysql/A_GalleryGroup_1.0.sql
.../DatabaseStorage/schema/platform/mysql/A_GalleryItem_1.0.sql
...baseStorage/schema/platform/mysql/A_GalleryPluginMap_1.0.sql

Anyone have problems with long directory and filenames on an OS X box? That is what it is acting like, but I have not seen this before.

Hints anyone.

G2 rocks.

already tried to upload the missing files manually? it shows you the list and the count, so you could upload of them manually and check if the list gets smaller.

Good idea. I may try this. Would slurping them from the CVS make a diff? I am not that familiar with CVS, but maybe this is a better way of acquiring them?

tx for the very fast response. G2 rocks.

yes, that would make a difference. for now, we would like to isolate the problem. so please, don't mix the gallery2 codebase from from beta 2 and the cvs version. (it would also result in another warning: modified files... in the system check step).

I understand... I will not mix them.

And you gave me an idea. I untarred the G2 beta 2 on a separate Linux server, untarred G2 beta 2 on the Mac OS X server, then went back to the Linux box and rsync'd the filesystem over. It worked! G2 then installed on the OS X server.

I have heard of different versions of 'tar' having difficulty with tarballs. But the odd thing was... even tho I untarred G2b2 on the Linux box and re-tarred it, the new tarball failed. I did not try plain ZIP, but that would have lost the permissions.
However, rsync worked!

The additions to G2 are terrific by the way. Well done. Very well done.

Does the 'Gallery' accept custom contract work by chance?

Indeed strange, but there's not much we can do about it...
But at least we can point others with the same problem in the same direction. Thanks for the "debugging".

so yes and no. at the moment, we just have too few resources for this kind of work. you could try asking for paid work in the G2 forums though.
