Forcing me to upgrade?

Quick question all... I installed G2, added a ton of photos, worked perfectly. now I started deleting photos from my data directory, and then I logged on once more. It then forced me to upgrade, but I was receiving all types of errors ((I did not save them, just reinstalled g2 and db). My questions is, would deleting 'versions.dat' from the data directory force me to upgrade?

Thank you for such a quick anwer! Now that I know :-/ If I accidentally delete this in the future (I won't), would I be able to create a new data directory and then copy the version.dat from that directory and place it into my original irectory to return it to working order?

All that versions.dat contains is the numerical and text version identifiers. You can even create it manually:

versions.dat
0.9.11
2.0-beta-2+

(In short, yes.)
