however when you are just viewing apicture normally, the "normal" or "full size" option does take effect.

This is most annoyin when relatives etc are watching a slideshow on their beasty 800 x 600 max video cards

any ideas?

normal vs. fullsize is just a client preference. It's a very confusing feature and it should be taken out of the product (it's not going to be in G2).

no way, youre removing the ability for people to have intermediary picture sizes?

madness, thats possibly one of the best features. (in normal pic viewing mode, slideshow doesnt really matter)

you say its a "client preference" but it does actually bring up a .sized.jpg image ... by default its to normal which is great for ppl just browins. if they want to bring up the full size image, then they can get the 1280 res pic.

im not talking about "auto fit" or whatever ...

No, you're thinking of the "automatically create a resized image on upload" feature. We're not getting rid of that.

Instead, we're getting rid of the "I prefer to view full size vs. normal size" viewing feature that you can enable/disable on a per album basis. At best, that preference should be moved somewhere else. I doubt that many people use it.

bharat : I do mine manually, i never to it automatically. Once ihave an album setup with 1280 original pics, i do a "resize all" to 800 x 600 which creates all the .sized.jpg pictures.

This is fantastic. it allows people to see the 800 x 600 image by default, and if the CLICK on the picture, it brings up the 1280 res copy.

is this the feature that is being removed?

I know a lot of people who value this feature. Perhaps the "client preference per album" can be removed, so a user would have to click on the "sized" copy each time to view the full size original, thats fine, but youve got to leave the ability to have intermediary photos there at all

I think maybe i have the issue confused ... my 2 cents anyway.

Why not just set the "auto-resize" setting in your album properties? Then it will take care of this for you when you upload the photo.

No. To see the feature that is being removed, edit the properties for any album, locate the setting marked "Offer visitors ability to specify preference for full-size or resized images", set that to "yes", then browse to a specific photo in the album and in the top right you'll see "View Images: [ normal | full ]". That allows you to specify your default preference for which version you see when you click a thumbnail. That feature is going away.

I dont like the auto resize or auto fit features because i usually post-process the images through photoshop in any case. I dont want gallery doing *anything* automatically, i want to control how big / quality my images are ... which is fine, gallery is perfect. ... anyways, that wasnt the feature i was talking about being obseleted.

i have turned OFF the ability for users to specify "normal" or "full" preference, and the user can still click on a .sized photo and bring up the full sized copy ... I presume that ability will remain, thats all im really talking about ... that they CAN get to a full sized copy if they want to, even if its done at the picture level, and not as a "album preference" as you said.

sorry if im buggin ya !
