Hi!
Another thing I had in mind while trying out Gallery 1.3.3: I would like to be able to add captions/titles in different languages. I have friends that speak portuguese, german and general englisch-speaking public, so I would like to be able to describe every image in all those languages and have only the relevant one shown to the user (user can choose its own preferred language. As I see in the features-list, a multi-language *interface* is already planned).
What do you think?

Multi-language captions, descriptions, summaries and all other content is something that we've considered for G2. I don't know if it'll be around for G2.0, but it's something that we can move towards in G2.1 and beyond.

Where are we on this feature today?

No progress since my last post. I'm not going to seriously consider it until G2.0 is released.

It's unlikely to even get to the drawing table for G1 for quite some time either (G2 should be well progressed before that). Unless someone such as yourself wants to spearhead this, it will be quite far off. It's fairly complex to implement, but is not a heavily-requested feature, which would be our main consideration against pursuing it more fervently.

FWIW (not much admittedly), I would love to see multi-language caption support also! I live in a Francophone country but am a native English speaker, so it'd be nice if I could have English captions for photos of local things that my friends are too dumb to identify ;)

in the interest of building support, I too would love this! It would really make the language packs 100% effective - having the content and the skeleton of the pages the user sees in their own language. If I ever get proficient at php I'll volunteer to do it, but until then, I can only voice my support.
