Heya,

I rather like my Adobe Photoshop Album software. It's great for organising photos and doing quick clean-ups of red-eye etc. etc.

However, I also love my Gallery 1.4x (at present) install.

It would be great if they could be linked a little more tightly. I don't know how the 'online services' option works but it'd be great if there were tighter integration.

In lieu of there being a quick solution, does anyone know a quick and effective workaround?

Cheers

Hi Vicky,

Like you I use Photoshop album (v2?) and Gallery.

Album and Gallery have different functions, Album is for you to organise and fix your pictures on your computer, Gallery is to share your pictures on the Web. Can you expand on what you mean in terms of integration?

For what it's worth, I've been trying to figure out the best way to link up the two as well.

The current approach is a little long-winded. I create a new category within Photoshop Album (e.g. Web-Ski 2005), which I then use to add the images to I wish to upload to Gallery.

I then use Gallery remote to upload the files to the webserver, by clicking and dragging each image from Photoshop Album to Gallery Remote.

I reckon there must be an easier way, perhaps there are other Photoshop Album users lurking here that could help?

One thing that bugs me at the moment is the fact that Gallery doesn't seem to be able to pick up the metadata (e.g. caption, categories) that Album has saved in the file. I don't like typing things twice and it would be a great timesaver if this feature was added.

I don't know if Photoshop Album stores the metadata in the file, their new XMP format seems to only be supported in the full-blown version of Photoshop (CS).

Regards,

Thank you for taking the time to post an answer for Vicky, since it appears a lot of us here weren't familiar with Photoshop Album (or we'd have answered her by now, I'm sure)!

G2 may have the feature you are looking for (recognizing metadata) - you might want to take a look in the G2 forums.

Hi there,

I was just thinking about this topic earlier today, and got quite excited, as in my opinion it would be nothing short of a perfect solution.

Expanding on the point that Vicky made in her post about the "Online Services" option within Photoshop Album - this allows the user to submit your photos for printing with some online companies, just like Gallery does (well, until they realise the legal implications as per Gallery's recent legal debacle, but that's OT).

Perhaps we could get an option added to allow the user to upload the selected photo's to a Gallery installation.

This would mean that I could use Adobe Album for managing my collection on the desktop and doing basic image tweaking, and once I'm done, I could upload my images to Gallery by simply using the "Online Services" feature. No dragging across of image files, no worries about metadata, gallery albums, etc. Just an integrated workflow.

This would open up Gallery to a whole new group of users.

We're almost there with Gallery Remote, where you can drag & drop groups of images from Photoshop Album. But this approach would be slicker, and easier from a user point of view.

Adobe have also just released Photoshop Elements 3, which combines Album & the new version of Elements. This means that I don't even have to go to a different app to do proper editing!

Anyhow, it's just an idea, which would no doubt require a huge amount of work, including effort from Adobe, to become reality. But if it were to be developed, perhaps this could result in the creation of a new open standard to allow other photo-apps to integrate with Gallery (and similar web-galleries).

/me snaps out of it and goes back to work.

enigma_edi, there is no reason why Adobe, or someone else, can't make a plugin that talks to the G2 API. It just needs to be done, by someone who knows how to do it... ;-)

Yep! I agree. I use Photoshop Elements 3, and an online service that auto-resizes and uploads to my Gallery install would be great!!!!

Wish I was a programmer!!! I'd take care of it.
