Like the title says ... would this be possible? Is there a plugin which does that?
My photo's on my G2 are all 2048x1505 in size, but to save some HDD space I would like them to resize to 1024x768 ...
I don't know anything about linux, and I don't have 'root' access to the server where my G2 is installed .... (which is Linux/apache)

None yet...
I think many of us will find such a module useful...
Right nown you have two choices :
1 - fill a new request for feature
2 - do it yourself ;-) I'm sure the developement team will provide you with help on this one

working on it, there is an RFE ( http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1183329&group_id=7130&atid=357130) for it and a task (http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&project_task_id=115346&group_id=7130&group_project_id=14056) already...
stay tune

any news on this?

I'd also like to do this since I have migrated to G2 and put it on a commercial host in the process (less space, but much faster). According to this RFE below, it's completed, but what does this mean? Is it part of the current CVS build or still waiting to be added?

Thanks in advance.

That would be an awesome module, I have been using a shareware program which I won't post (not sure if that's allowed), but it would be so much better to have it in the program itself. If the mods let me, I'll post the name...

I don't think there's a need to post a name of a program to batch resize images. A simple google search will find a couple dozen programs that can do this. Most image editing apps have this ability as well.
There are Free Open Source Software, shareware and pay options.
Besides, it's off topic. ;) This is a discussion about resizing images in G2 not using 3rd party tools. Now, is someone wants to know the name of the program you are using they can PM you. ;) You could also create a thread in General Chit-Chat discussing different 3rd party apps for this.

To be more specific, I have other software than can batch resize images, but my understanding (and perhaps I'm wrong here) is that G2 stores image sizes in its database, so resizing the images outside of G2 could cause problems.

G2 stores your original images here /g2data/albums/. For thumbs and resized images they are stored under /g2data/cache/derivative/
However, I believe you are correct that if you were to resize those images, it would cause problems with G2. It does store information about the image size and file size of the derivatives (thumbs and resized images) in the DB and as far as I can tell it also stores information about the file size of the original images.
Currently, without a module to do this in G2, the only real solution is to batch resize before uploading or set your size limits to what you want the images to be before uploading them. Otherwise, write a module or wait patiently. G2 is still in Beta stage ;)

I've searched this whole forum, and the gallery website too, and it seems that I'm unable to locate how and where I file a feature request....
And resizing the images _before_ uploading them in gallery2 is something I'd figured out myself ... if it weren't that there are over 10.000 items on my gallery :/

According to this page and what virshu has said above:
http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&project_task_id=115346&group_id=7130&group_project_id=14056
an RFE for this has been submitted and completed.

Ok, I installed it (I upgraded to RC1) ... but ehrm ... how do I resize an album now??
IIRC, go to Edit Album > Album (tab), then set your size limits and check the "Check here to apply these size limits to the pictures in this album and all subalbums" check box.
That will resize the images, again IIRC. But it will not reset the settings at each of the sub-albums so you'll still have to go into each album and set the settings to the sizes you want.

I must be being stupid - but I don't see this ( although I am posting several versions after your post). I can only set the target resizes - but filling this in and setting the 'build resze now' option doesn't seem to remove the original. I'd like to remove the original and just keep the 2 resizes. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Mike
