I'm thinking of using gallery for an art history slide (scan) collection that will number maybe 4-5,000 images eventually. It really should be in a true database server but I don't like what we have (Cumulus) and think that maybe Gallery 2 could do the job. In the meantime, instructors need images online. What I'm wondering, what might be the best way to input keyword information such that it can be usefully imported into Gallery 2's database?
For example, if key words are "Kandinksky","Modern","20th Century","Week 3","oil","abtract","1912" (and maybe a couple more) is there a "best format" for placing these in the keyword (single) field such that they might be capturable for future _multiple_ fields in Gallery 2 (might there be such an import tool)?
(Maybe just with line returns?)

Right now, G2 only has a single keywords field so it's pretty much just the same as G1. But you're right that we could add a module to G2 that gives multiple keywords which could be cool. But it's anybody's guess when that will happen. I'd use some kind of sane delimiter for now and expect that when the time comes, we'll be able to write a migration script to roll your data forward. If you're consistent with your format, I'm confident that we can make it work.
