"Error: Server contacted, but Gallery not found at this URL (http://blah/gallery2/gallery_remote2.php)"

I don't even have a gallery_remote2.php in my folder! Help! :oops:

Are you using gallery2? A little more info would go a long way. A lot more info would go even farther. Thanks!

try your luck with the current nightly snapshot of G2 from http://galleryupdates.jpmullan.com and make sure you update your .htaccess file (go to site admin -> url rewrite and click save if you use the rewrite module).

This is from your other thread posted in G2 Support:

Quote:
Wait how do I know if I am blocking any spam bots?

If you don't know, then you probably are not. I had this same error, when I stopped denying the RPT-HTTPClient user-agent string I was able to connect to G2 with GR.

Quote:
Also on that site can you give me the exact nightly I have to get cuase I have no idea what on tha site.

For Gallery Remote and using Windows for your OS, grab current_gallery_remote.zip If running Mac OS X, grab current with MacOSX in the filename.

Try connecting now.

If that doesn't work try upgrading to a current nightly of Gallery. You can grab current.gallery2.tar.gz from the link posted above. I'm not expecting that to work though since a newer Gallery Remote build should connect to G2.

Install it ;)

If you downloaded Gallery install it just as you did your previous installation. You probably should backup your database and g2data directory. You'll also need to follow valiant's advise above about .htaccess and URL rewrite if you use URL rewrite.

EDIT: By "install it just as you did your previous installation" I mean upload the files to your server then run the upgrader. http://www.example.net/gallery2/upgrade/ Most likely you'll be forwarded to the upgrader automatically when you visit your gallery after updating the files.

If you downloaded Gallery Remote just install it on your PC and try connecting.

There are a number of files missing from the Gallery installs that I get, one of them being the "gallery_remote2.php" even addign that and playing around it appears to reference other files.
So I am guessing that Gallery remote files are not included in the new build?

I don't even have a gallery_remote2.php in my folder! Help! :oops:

Is this an error or has this function been disable with G2-RC1? The file is also missing in my G2.

Thanks, Toddman

I just installed G2-RC1+5 and I'm getting a slightly different error from Gallery Remove 1.4.1:
"Error: Server contacted, but Gallery not found at this URL (http://blah/gallery/main.php)"
and I do have main.php in my folder... and it works fine.

Any ideas?

My guess is that G2 does not work with remote but i haven't seen that stated anywhere.

GR 1.4.1 didn't support G2, but GR 1.4.2 betas do, and GR 1.5 just came out to support those of you who prefer to stick to released software.

Still no fix for me, the

Quote:
I was able to fix this error by creating a file called gallery_remote2.php in the gallery directory (/gallery2 for me) and putting the following code into that file:
<?
header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found");
exit;
?>

This got rid of the problem for me. Hope this is helpful.

does nto work, nor does:

GalleryRemote.properties
forceGalleryVersion.1=2

Using the latest G2 and the latest build of GR, as always with all builds of G2 that I have downloaded there are not any files called gallery_remote.php, I have also installed the module remote.

For such a frequent question there appears to be a lack of information.

I'm using Gallery Remote 1.5 and I have a gallery2 installation at:

www.cliffandrenee.com/gallery2

When I attempt a connection to the gallery2 URL, I get the following error:

Error: Server contacted, but Gallery not found at this URL ( http://www.cliffandrenee.com/gallery2/main.php )

Any ideas how to fix? Gallery Remote works great with Gallery 1 installation. Not luck with Gallery 2.

Thanks,

Cliff

I've been trying to resolve this problem for way too many hours now. Out of all, the following is what finally worked for me. It may well be the problem that so many others are having, so recommend that you try this first:

Created (or changed, if it already exisited from previous G! install) "gallery_remote2.php" in the main galley directory at my site with ONLY the following contents:

<?php
header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found");
exit;
?>

Error went away and GR found G2.

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

I too am having this problem. I've tried creating the gallery_remote2.php file but it hasn't changed anything. I'm using G2 and I have an updated GR. The only thing that seems to be different from my G2 is that its url is http://blah.com/gallery2/gallery2/main.php - as in, i have an extra gallery2 directory because of the way I installed it (I've been too nervous to go back and change it!) But I don't imagine that's the problem...

The username and PW I'm trying to use are the ones I use to access my G2.

Any other advice is appreciated!

hey paour,

thanks for your reply... i've been unable to locate my log, though! I might just be tired... but I searched my system (winxp) for GalleryRemoteLog.txt and didn't find anything. Going through my GR folders I did find log.properties, but that was it. Sorry to be a pain... I won't be online again until Tues evening UK time, but I'll check back here then. Cheers! :)

hello, paour, i am having this problem as well. This is my GalleryRemote log, which I omit something which i think useless for this problem. As far as i can see, is this a problem due to encoding?? Thanks a lot.

OH, i upgraded my G2 to lastest build and so as galleryremote, this turns out ok! But things are getting more weird than before. I logged in with GalleryRemote as a gallery admin, but all album turns out "read-only" in the GalleryRemote. Not even my own album!

I viewd the GalleryRemoteLog.txt and found that all "album.perms.*.*=false" No other error messages seem to be present. May you fix this?

And another problem too, UTF-8 Chinese cannot show up correctly in GalleryRemote too. This problem lasts ever since I'm using it from version 1.4 to 1.5 now.

Thanks a lot again.

happyvav, I know why you can't connect: when GR tests whether http://www.vanessashaw.ca/gallery2/gallery2/main.php/gallery_remote2.php exists (it doesn't), your web server redirects to the G2 main page, which confuses GR.

Can you create the gallery_remote2.php file as suggested in this thread, or set up your GR to assume your gallery is G2 as suggested in the GR FAQ. http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery_Remote:FAQ#Connecting_to_a_G2_installation:_Server_contacted.2C_but_Gallery_not_found_at_this_URL

hey paour, thanks again for the reply... I created the gallery_remote2.php file a few days ago (before I posted here). Maybe I did something wrong in the making of it, though - I'm still learning this whole php-thing. I created a notepad document with notepad, copied the tag-message into it, and saved it as gallery_remote2.php - isn't that right?

Just checked in my gallery2 folder and it's there - however, even with the tags in the file, it's still coming up as a size of 0k. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

I also tried getting into the .properties file the other day, but my computer didn't have a program to open it, and when I did the auto-internet search, it didn't come up with anything, eihter.

Ahhhhh... hate to be a pain! But I really do appreciate your help :)

okay... I opened the .properties file with notepad and added the line forceGalleryVersion.http=//www.vanessashaw.ca/gallery2/gallery2/main.php\=2

However, I'm still coming back with the same error msg as before. Should I repost my log or anything? cheers...

Hi Paour
It seems that your are the only voice of reason in a pool of fools (me included).
I am having the same problems as others in this post.
I have tried all of the above and mainly believe in editing the . properties file.
I have located my log file and would very much love you to help me out with my problem which has been plagueing me for days now.
Galley 2
imbedded in PHP Nuke 7.8
standard http://website.com/modules/gallery2/main

I have tried to edit the .properties file with
forceGalleryVersion.http=//www.website.com/modules/gallery2/main.php\0=2
and have tried the 1=2 also.
dont get me wrong I really don't fully understand what I am doing however I do follow instructions well.
Please give me permission to send you my log file.

Thanks

Gee

I was in the exact same situation as happyvav and malfredm until just a few minutes ago. I had tried all the various combinations of gallery_remote2.php and forceGalleryVersion.1-2 (or 0=2), but continued to be unable to connect.

However, I found the solutin in another thread. (http://gallery.menalto.com/node/39937)

Make sure you have installed and activated the "Remote" module in Gallery 2. That's it. All that effort to 'fix' Gallery Remote, and the really problem was a missing piece on the Gallery install itself. Seems so simple and obvious now that it has been pointed out.
