Hi,
I have looked through the G2 FAQ, the integration post on mambo+G2 (all the gzillion posts in it ). I have also looked through a number of posts on this forum.
I'm getting closer, but have not yet succeeded in forming a clear picture on the state of development of the mambo-G2 integration.
I have a number of (perhaps uninformed, but well meaning nonetheless, questions). Hopefully someone will be kind enough to answer them:
1. Is there a central website or page(s) where one can find some overview of the Mambo+G2 project, or is everything there is scattered throughout these forum posts?
2. Where can I get the latest components/modules/mambots/documentation for mambo+G2?
3. What is the current state of the integration - ie. can someone get the mambo+G2 component installed and working as easily as the other mambo components?
4. Is the mambo-G2 component stable enough to start using by non-developers, or is it still only for brave developers ?
5. What is the extent of the integration - visual integration only? login and session control integration? mambo template integration? pathway integration? mambo admin panel?
6. Does the G2 side bar work inside mambo modules, well enough to use and stay coordinated with what is shown in the mambo main body area?
7. Is there any intent to release the latest component and module versions to mamboForge?
If there is no central place to get all this info, that is fine, I understand the pressures of developing on the bleeding edge.
Hopefully it is not too much trouble for someone to answer these questions, though.
Thanks very much.

AND

Mambo + G2

At the moment, it works great if your gallery2 direcetory is in the mambo directory. Further language problems are overcome if you setup mambo correctly. If this isn't case, wait just a little longer for the next version of the component! Further the integration is not fully but will be after mambo 4.5.3 is out and we can use "userbots" in mambo. This also is used in the next version of the component.
4. Is the mambo-G2 component stable enough to start using by non-developers, or is it still only for brave developers ?
You can try it and deinstall if it isn't working for you.
5. What is the extent of the integration - visual integration only? login and session control integration? mambo template integration? pathway integration? mambo admin panel?
visual, Login and session, mambo template(more or less, depents on your template i think).
pathway integration, nice call, i'll put it on the list.
mambo admin panel, what do you mean?
6. Does the G2 side bar work inside mambo modules, well enough to use and stay coordinated with what is shown in the mambo main body area?
yes, it does.
7. Is there any intent to release the latest component and module versions to mamboForge?
it, is released there, i keep the files up to date on both sites!
hope it was enough if not, just say so,

Hi Michiel,
Thanks very much for the prompt and detailed reply. It's great to see a product so well supported.
--> What is currently missing from the *end user* functionality that Mambo 4.5.3 will fix ? Since we don't have Mambo 4.5.3 yet, what things will not yet work, or will look strange?
--> Also, In a post on June 29/2005, 10:56pm in an answer to ottobufonto you said: "the sidebar is far from complete for mambo and it is given back by gallery2 as it is, you have to modifie the template files of gallery2 to fix this".
Is it still the case that we have to change the Gallery2 template files in order to make the sidebar work properly inside mambo modules?
--> There seem to be a number of sidebar modules floating around, and it is not clear what they are for:
On MamboForge:
mod_g2_sidebar.zip
mod_galleryside-v2.2.zip
On the mambo+G2 first post here:http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=140845#140845
mod_galleryside.zip
What is the difference between them? Which should I use?
--> Are there any patches needed to the 2.05 version of the component?
Thanks.

I'm building the next relaise with mambo 4.5.3 in mind, because it will support mambots. At the moment it isn't used and it doesn't matter much. The integration will only be better after 4.5.3.

mod_g2-sidebar.zip is for component version 1
the other 2 are the same and for component version 2

Hi Michiel,
Firstly, I want to thank you. You have done a really great job.
Believe it or not, I just installed G2 and mambo, and it went as smooth as silk. No problems. Excellent work you have done!
When G2 is chosen from my main mambo menu, I remove all left side and right side module positions in mambo, I don't even use the mod_gallerside, I just let G2 take the entire width of the screen below the main mambo horizontal menu, and show the G2 sidebar naturally. This looks fine because my mambo template is so similiar to the default G2 look anyways, that it appears natural. Therefore I see no need to put the G2 sidebar in mambo modules.
But, something strange is happening.
The pixel space for G2 is smaller when G2 runs inside the main mambo body, than when it runs outside main body (as it would in a standalone installation).
The result is G2 seems to scale itself down in size, just a little bit, to fit into the smaller screen width.
The problem is, all the G2 fonts become too small and fuzzy to read, because the entire G2 is scaled down. I have another bridged component which also runs in the mambo main body, and it does not get distorted like this, eg. com_smf (the mambo-smf forum).
Do you know what is causing this effect, and what I can do to fix it?
Is there perhaps a separate G2 template one should use to "format" G2 for when it is embedded in a CMS main body?
I'll PM you my URL in case you want to take a quick look at what my G2 looks like inside the mambo main body.
Thanks for your support.
P.S. - I'm wondering if this may be a browser issue. I am using Firefox. In IE6, the main body seems to think the right module position is still there (this may be indicative of a problem) and doesn't use the entire screen. In FireFox, the mainbody uses the full width of the screen.

hmm, sorry i don't have a answer ready for your problem. css problem most likely as safari doesn't fuzz it up as much as FireFox does it. IEv6 i don't know.
great the install went so smoothly, i have made the next version pathway friendy and shows the album names your in. thxs for the suggestion.

problem solved.
In the Gallery2 matrix theme.css, in #gallery, change font size from 62.5% to 100%.
That fixes the "scale" down of the fonts when you try and embed Gallery2 inside your mainbody.
What a great addition to Mambo this component is.
Wait until the mambo community discovers this. You will become famous pretty fast...
All the best.
