Renaming images (not captions)

I use a digital camera. The S/W that comes with it always downloads to my PC using the same filenames.

that isn't an issue most of the time - I upload each new camera full of pics to a new album and Bob's yer uncle.

however sometimes I want to move an image into another album. Now the filenames in the other album are the same as in the source album - so that is going to be an issue. Simply renaming the files in the album on the server isn't ok - screws up the system.

So suggestion is to create a function to rename the underlying filename (and thus update the database etc at trhe same time) - this will allow me to rename the file and move it to another album without conflict.
My alternative is to rename it on the PC - re-upload that file to the new album - then delete it from the old - not as neat
