Hello, I am having problems completing the Configuration Wizard while installing Gallery 1.5 with netPBM. My netpbm folder is at http://www.therambler.net/gallery/netpbm.

On Step 4 I get the error: // Error: Could not find /export/home/thecrew/www/gallery/netpbm/pnmcomp. Check your NetPBM directory to see which PNM Composite/Overlay executable you have (or just try using pamcomp instead). Please check your configuration (or use ImageMagick).

I have run searches on these forums to find a solution to the missing pnmcomp and I have read many posts from others that had the same problem. In most instances the recommendation was to either (1) download a different netPBM version from the precompiled Gallery downloads at Sourceforge or (2) ignore it as it isn't a requisite unless we want watermarking.

I do not want to use watermarking, and have set the Step 2 options accordingly, but I cannot complete the configuration wizard without this file.

I downloaded my current netPBM (netpbm1.1-gallery1.0-solaris2.8-sparc.tgz) from the Gallery Sourceforge site and it is missing this file. I know that the reason is because I downloaded a netpbm version for Gallery 1.1 - and the file exists in downloads for Gallery 1.4. Unfortunately, none of the download options for netpbm 1.4 are for Solaris sparc systems.

When I go to the netpbm site at http://netpbm.sourceforge.net/ the prebuilt distributions for Sun Sparc systems my only choice is http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/packages/solaris/sparc/ which does not have a package for Solaris 2.7. Instead, I downloaded 2.6 and uploaded the pnmcomp file to my web space.

Now the Configuration error I get is: // Error: I can't find NetPBM at the location you provided. Gallery prefers NetPBM version 9.9 and up. You can install just the binaries Gallery needs from the Gallery Download Page. Or, you can compile and install the entire NetPBM package from the NetPBM website.Note: You can install the binaries from the Gallery site even if you don't have root access on your box! If you can't get it working, try leaving the NetPBM path blank and using ImageMagick instead.

I'm at a loss. I don't know where else to get a proper working pnmcomp file - and I don't know why the files I've uploaded have made it so that the config wizard can't even see my netPBM folder at all (when, if I remove that file, it can see the folder but, obviously, not find the individual file).

I'm having the exact same problem AND my netpbm IS installed in a different directory. I can't get past it wanting pnmcomp.

Any suggestions? Where can I find this file that doesn't give the prefers NetPBM version 9.9 and up error?

Thanks,
Leslie

I already set up gallery for several times. Always came thru the installation. I already have problems with netpbm but always fixed them. It's first time now on this server and i just can't get it workin.

Please help, i really need to build this site.

There's an option in the 2nd step of the configuration wizard to use the file pmmtojpeg instead of pnmtojpeg AND pamcomp instead of pnmconp. It made my gallery working fine.

Yeah, I am getting the same errors and can't complete the configuration wizard without pnmcomp. But I also cannot complete it without pamcomp either.
