I would like to be able to post placemarks, kmz files, with my travel photos to allow people to link them to Google Earth. Has anyone done anything like this? It would be a really nice feature for those of us who post a lot of travel photos. If you have broadband you can go to http://earth.google.com to see what I mean. It can really add a great perspective to a location photo. Just as an example I am attaching a Google Earth Placemark for a trip that we just made.

Please consider adding the ability to upload these placemark files to Gallery. Thanks so much for considering this request.

Check out Gallery 2, one of the user contributed modules is a Google Maps module. It reads a "Custom Field" (called like "GPS CORDS" or something?) which contain the lat/long. Then it makes a map with pinprics in the right place! Of course, you either have to have a GPS enabled camera (i could only find like, 2 of them!), a hand held GPS and a good memory / pencil & paper or search on google earth and copy the lat/long from there. Lotta work I think :(

That sounds like a nice feature but the ability to include a Google Earth Placemark would also be nice. Google maps is a slightly different flavor and I will certainly take a look at the module you recommend. This might not be the right place to ask but how hard is it to migrate from Gallery 1 to Gallery 2?

I have an easy work around for this. I upload the placemark files to my server and then put an HTML link to it in the description for the photo. That way a viewer can simply click on the link and open the placemark file. For an example of this you can go to http://www.bbbrown.com/gallery/album27/IMG_1865_Large

I think this really satisfies my need for now very well.

Just an update. The link in my last post no longer works as I am migrating all of my images to G2.

Hi,

I just want to share this website tip http://www.maplandia.com, there are more than 2 000 000 Google Earth locations worldwide.

Hope that helps,
Martin
