.htaccess and url disappears

Hi . I have a problem. When i have crated an .htaccess file and uploaded it in my gallery folder, my gallery folder disappears from the URL but i can still see it in my ftp program.

when i crated the .htaccess i opened an empty dreamweaver page and just named it .htaccess is this wrong?

please help i really want my gallery to work.

I don't know anything about Dreamweaver; are you sure the file is really empty, and are you sure it hasn't defaulted to some other filetype?

not sure if this helps, but for my HTACCESS file, I opened a new text document, and just named it htaccess. Uploaded it, set the CHMOD, then renamed it to .htaccess.

watch the extention of that file. Dont use Dreamweaver to create that file!
Dreamweaver is a html editor it will save you the file created as .htm or .html ! your file has to be simply called .htaccess.
You said you are using FTP ? that makes it eaven easier. Just create a new document called .htaccess. straignt on your server.
