As a person who has well over 11,000 images, i truely like gallery... that being said.. I have a problem with it as well... The applets hang alot during uploads if there are alot of files.. it maybe my connection, but that's doubtfull as FTP seems to shoot right along...

I guess my " feedback / suggestion " would be to ask that future versions contain an option to gather images from a location on the server.

i.e. i upload images, and named directories to /var/www/ART
and then tell gallery to convert that directory, and all of it's subdirectories into galleries, and then create thumbs for the images....

I'm sure this is a proccess intence thing to do, but if like most other people with large ammounts of images, i have a dedicated server for my gallery, and i have the CPU / Mem to spare...

just a thought... would save alot of time as uploads could be performed via FTP, then everything processed once on the server, not after each image is uploaded...

With Gallery 1, the only way to do this is by using galleryadd.pl, a perl script which can be run on the server. (http://galleryupdates.jpmullan.com/)

Gallery 2 has this support internally.

You're going to have to be more specific here.

Yes, galleryadd.pl converts directories into albums.

Yes, G2 has this ability built in.

upgraded to gallery two...... now just to embed this into PHPNuke... thanx for info, but appears that the perl script doesn't want to work for version 1.4.4 of gallery... *shrug* tried for a few hours to figure out the problem, decided to scrap the old version and try out G2... install is alot cleaner on G2 :)
