during my migration from g1 to g2 yesterday... i was having a small problem.
deleting a .htaccess file that i created in the migration process solved my issues.

i have imported my albums from g1; my migration is functional.

questions:
1) do i need a .htaccess file or files?
2) if so, where and how should i create it at this point?
3) what is it for?

thanks in advance

see the instructions in site admin -> import from G1.
you need a htaccess in your old, now empty g1 albums dir. you need a htaccess in your g2 folder and if your g2 folder is another folder than your old g1 folder, you need in the empty g1 folder a htaccess file too. instruction are in the above mentioned admin view.

ah yes, i remember my confusion now:

my new g2 dir is the same name and in the same location as my old g1 dir, however the data is in a new dir in a new location.

AND, i deleted my old g1 dirs. (albums are imported to new dir, etc.) i have no previous (g1) .htaccess file.

what shall i do?

thanks,

well, i updated to php5 and now have everything working there --all extensions, and activation went fine.

as for the htaccess, i created a .htaccess in my main g2 folder and it seems to be checking out, i.e., says "success."

is it normal (and correct or can it be modified) that when i log out of site admin the url left in my browser addy line ends in: /v/?g2_navId=xc9fdf765

??

thanks,

that's normal. v/ for "view" and g2_navId... for the back button.
