'most viewed', 'latest added' and 'show statistics' don't work

Greetings,
When I click on 'most viewed', 'latest added' or 'show statistics' on the 'admin options/statistics' page, nothing happens. I've ran 'validate albums' but this doesn't resolve the problem. I just upgraded to v1.5.1 but this also didn't fix the problem.

From what I could gather from other threads (like this one) info in some of the albums was somehow corrupted and so the task aborts when it hits a corrupt album while traversing the albums. Is there a way to fix this? The thread above mentioned turning on debugging and then watching the output to see which albums it crashed on. They then reordered pics in that album or some other methods that seemed haphazard and it fixed it. My problem is I don't know how to view the debug output once I turn debugging on in stats.php to '$debug = 1'. I'm ssh'ing into my server. Is the debug output going to a log file somewhere? stdout?
If anyone can tell me how to view debug output for stats.php then I can try the shot in the dark method the thread above talks about, or better yet if anyone knows how to permanently resolve this I would be forever apreciative!
