I updated an existing Gallery installation to 2.0 last week and it ran fine until yesterday. I created a new installation today to see if that would work and it doesn't -- I get the same errors after setting debug mode to buffered. Errors are below and don't mean too much to me. The host (vizaweb) is running PHP 4.4.0

I have seen some postings about modifying php.ini to change the zend optimizer but I don't think I have access to that file. Is there an example somewhere of how to add that change locally?

only your webhosting administrator can access php.ini, contact them and point them to the FAQ entry.

They say to create a php.ini file in my public_html folder with the zend_optimizer.optimization_level=14 line in it. This hasn't helped, but I may be doing it wrong. What else should be in the php.ini file? Does it get checked before or after the php.ini file on the host?

ask them for a copy of their php.ini file.
in your copy, change the zend optimizer level line and save it where they tell you to.
please handle this with your webhost, we can't help you there.
