3 questions...

1) How can I turn off register on the login page ie a way of presenting a 'viewer only interface' and/or hiding the login except to me at a particular address

2) How can I restrict access by anon users to only particular albums

3) I don't understand the url rewrite function -- can this be used to create aliases eg to www.otherurl/photoalbums/

1) Turn of the registration module, that'll remove the entire ability to register. You can edit the file that displays the login link, but you'll kick yourself for doing that some time in the future when you aren't at the computer you have allowed by ip address and need to log in.

2) Edit Permissions, son.

3) URL Rewrite makes the URL look prettier, like http://fryfrog.com/gallery2/v/Dogs/Pants. I believe there is also a user contributed module that will let you make custom, perminent URLS like http://fryfrog.com/gallery2/pictures_of_your_mom_with_some_guy/ that would point to some album in your site. And then, what *YOU* are asking seems to be to have your /gallery2/ directory named something else. You don't need any aliases or rewrites for that, just rename your /gallery2/ directory to /photoalbums/
