Gallery version: Gallery2 (problem was there before upgrade aswell

PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):

My /albums directory is world readable. So even if i set permissions on albums ppl might dig down there to find my secret stuff. Im sure this is a easy issue but i cant find out what wrong. Could someone give me a pointer in the right direction. The permissions on the albums dir is the same as on my other gallery installations and thoose work fine.
drwxr-xr-x 14 apache wheel

Well, Gallery 2 combats this, if you place your G2 data dir oursite of the webroot (Image firewall). G1 never had this protection.

Which is great! I never understood the point of having password protected private albums...when all one had to do was point the browser directly to the albums folder and see/get all the files they wanted to see/get.
Was is it really that easy?
