Large tmp folder

Hi, I've had my Gallery 2 installation up and running sweetly for quite a few months now (http://gallery.ildica.com/), but I'm concerned about the amount of space taken up by the tmp folder. My albums folder is about 67Mb. Please can you advise whether it is normal for a tmp folder to continue growing? I assume I am safe to manually delete the files in that folder from time to time, but I'd be much happier if there was a better way to keep it under control. Could it be a permissions issue meaning that Gallery is unable to delete temporary files when it's finished with them? Many thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Conor [=9] |

you're safe to delete everything in g2data/tmp.
if it grows again, please let us know what you did. whether you get timeouts / errors or whether sometimes a upload doesn't finish or so.

Thanks.
I was pretty sure I was safe to delete tmp.
I have done on a number of occasions, but it keeps re-growing.
My gallery installation seems to run fine without errors (certainly I never experience any errors in my browser), and I haven't noticed anything too strange in the server logs (but I'm not an expert on webservers by any means).
I only use GalleryRemotefor uploading, and have never had problems uploading.
I'm just worried about my allocated webspace running out, 'cos then gallery (and the other stuff on my site) falls over.
I'm pretty sure I didn't have this problems with the betas (and I started with beta 2)
Thanks for any other suggestions, and if I can pin down what's happening on my gallery when my tmp folder grows, I'll let you know.
Cheers,
Conor
P.S. How many posts a day do you respond to valiant? ;-) Seems like every thread I read has a helpful response from you!

i just looked at my production g2 which is public since a few months.
i've got a few files in the tmp folder. all 0bytes. and a single identify.core 6mb file, a core dump of imagemagick... weird.
what files do you have in there?
and yes, much too many posts...

I cleared my tmp folder out 3 days ago, and it's already got 110 files in it, totalling 11.4Mb. And I haven't done anything to my gallery, i.e. haven't uploaded any files etc.
All the files start with wmk_, so e.g. I've got wmk_3Dq5U0 which is 70k, wmk_hqxsp4 which is 96K, etc.
Could it be a rogue module?
I've recently installed the RSS and Google Maps modules (I think those were the two non-standard ones), but haven't got them to work so far, but the times of the files in my tmp folder do not correspond to times that I've been trying to access those modules. E.g. the latest 4 files in there were created while I was asleep last night :-D I'm assuming the files are being created when others are browsing my gallery then, or it's being hit by Google or whoever.
Thanks for your help, Valiant

wmk_ are tmp files generated by the watermarking mdoule. that's fine. it just shouldn't leave them in the tmp folder.
maybe file a bug report on http://sf.net/projects/gallery/

Ah, okay. I use galleryembed from another domain of mine to display a random imageblock, I wonder if that could be causing trouble. I haven't been able to get url writing to work properly either, so it could be a mix of things.
I've emptied my tmp folder again, deleted my watermark, and will see what happens in my tmp folder.
If I can find my username for sourceforge, I will look into filing a bug report.
Thanks...

Hi, I just started using Gallery myself, and watched my disk space grow at an alarmingly fast and impossible pace. Turns out, it's the zip files sitting in the TMP folder of albums/images people added to their cart for download. Is there a way other than going in and deleting them manually to perform maintenance for this module? I'm tempted to just turn it off now. Great application though! I am really liking it.

the zip files should be deleted automatically. if they are not deleted right after downloading them, it's a bug/problem in your g2.
but this shouldn't be discussed in this topic.
create a new topic in the troubleshooting forum if necessary.
