Removing Photo Descriptions

I'm using Gallery2 and would like to know if there's a way to globally turn off file descriptions and dates. When photos are uploaded or imported into Gallery they use the file dates and descriptions from the files and show that information in Gallery. I would like to turn this off on a global basis and add dates and descriptions on a case-by-case basis. Can someone please help?
