import images from old gallery?

is there any way to get a new install of Gallery to import the images and comments from another gallery install that no longer exists?

I have a backup that contains the 'albums' folder, and bunch of view_photo.php files for each image it looks like. I just installed Gallery on my server copyed over the albums directory and the albums.php file from the backup to the new server however it dosnt work. Is there any way that I can get this working? I'm bacsicly trying to get a working gallery going out of a backup that was made of a now gone website for historical purposes.
