Can't seem to raise my php memory (can't use php.ini nor .htaccess)

I have successfully installed Gallery 2, and am attempting to migrate my data from my Gallery 1 albums. Each time it starts moving the pictures over, it stops after a few seconds and just sits there. The memory is 8MB and it stops right when it's about at that point. The answer seems obvious - change the php memory setting, but I don't know how to do it. I use Globat for my host, and they don't allow access to php.ini, and if I use .htaccess, I get the HTTP 500 error until I delete the file.

Can anyone tell me alternate methods of increasing my php memory size, or maybe a workaround for the HTTP error when using .htaccess?

Thanks!

8 MB is too low for using G2 and it's much too low for migration. migration requires a lot more memory than anything else in G2.

globat is known to be problematic for G2.
please ask them if they would be so kind to change the php memory limit. the .htacces method only works if they allow it. obviously they don't allow it.

They said no. Looks like if you're going to use Globat as a host, you're not going to be using G2. :(
