A new, database ready Fotonotes is released. If only I knew how to hook it into a database and gallery.

I know this has been brought up in the past but... I also know there are a lot of people who are still interested in a solution. I have searched far and wide for a good image annotation/note tool that could be integrated into g2 and come up with squat.

Anyway, flickr notes hopefuls there may be light at the end of the tunnel yet. There are two image annotation type programs out there. One is fotonoter.net the other is http://2entwine.com/fotobuzz/. Fotobuzz and the original Flickr notes is loosly based on fotonotes. Fotonotes and fotobuzz write the annotations into the jpeg's header sometimes corrupting the file. A previous thread for gallery discussed modifying fotobuzz to store them in the db instead. With the new version of fotonotes, it should be possible if anyone has the time to do it.

Sometimes I wish the name for this awesome software was more unique. You don't get very specific results with gallery xx or even g2 xxx. I keep telling myself that someone, somewhere must have already done this. If only I could find the right search string.

Cheers,

** Update **
I just emailed the folks over at fotobuzz about a possible collaboration. I think they like the idea.. email follows:

Thanks for pointing this out to us, this is useful.

After the 0.2 release, I thought it would be a good idea to move to a
database back-end instead of the image based store. It should be
straight forward enough give how the code is organized.

I'd be willing to help with modifying the PHP code to get it to work
with MySQL. Or, I can do it myself, but that'll take longer since I'm a
tad busy at the moment.

Agreed.

This is also promising. I like the ui of fotobuzz but the new version of fotonotes viewer is dhtml instead of flash. Flash does have its advantages though. It would be a good way to make a image wrapper/protector for you important photos.

It's too bad I don't know the first thing about making this stuff work, or I would do it myself.

Thanks,

I guess this might fit better here? I had it in customization but I think its more of a module thing. If anyone has any tips or good tutorials for hooking something like this into a database, I guess I could take a stab at it. I thought more people were interested in this.

Thanks,
