Anyone else using Gallery 2 locally? After eliminating my experimental Macs and by association iPhoto, I found myself not wanting to be tied to some sort of other photo software I could not totally control and trust to be able to do what I wanted with so I decided to install Gallery 2 locally since I do a lot of other PHP/MySQL work anyway. Anyone else doing this?

if you're using it just as local desktop image viewer / organizer, then i'd say something like picasa 2 does a better job / is better suited right now.
a lot of g2 features are focused to presenting your photos to the public, or around building a community website where all can add photos/albums. it has a lot of features that can be found in picasa too, but picasa focues on being a desktop image viewer / organizer and is good at that.

Well except it doesn't fulfil what I thought was an apparent requirement: that it be open source.
