I've since learned that it's not possible to simply upgrade from G2 Beta to G2. Sucks, but it's my fault for using the beta version in the first place. With that said, is there any way possible to simply do a clean install of Gallery2, and then import all of my current albums and info into it? you can upgrade g2 beta versions to the current g2 version, np. just download the latest version of g2 and use the upgrader.
all explained in the FAQ and in the README.
ah, wait.
you're using G2 ALPHA 2. which is waaay older than betas. upgrading is only possible for ALPHA 4 and newer versions.
ok, you can use add items -> from server to import all your albums with a 1,2 clicks.

No, that's not going to it, unfortunately, because:
'Descriptions, keywords, user data, ... are lost'
I'm too darned lazy to re-do ketwords, titles, descriptions, etc for 400+ photos...
Sigh. Well, really - is there any concrete reason why it's necessary to upgrade from alpha? I mean, is it suddenly going to explode on me or something, because it's so old and out of date? ;)

reasons to upgrade:
- fixed security vulnerabilities: there have been very few security issues since alpha, but they are fixed now. your version is still vulnerable
- a ton of fixed bugs (and some new ones
- a anwful lot of new features since alpha
- should be faster
- looks better / more cool themes
- ...
