I currently have a website using G1.5 with 10,000 photos and growing (http://www.travelsignposts.com/Destinations/). I need to move to G2 and have installed G2 (Apache/Linux) successfully. But I'm a little at a loss as to how to alter G2 to resemble (approximately) my G1 look, i.e. 3 columns with a PHP include (navigation etc) on the left, Gallery in the middle, and Google adsense on the right.

In G1 this was a relatively simple html wrapper/footer etc amendment, but G2 ain't so easy (for me, anyway)!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

make a local themes/matrix/templates/theme.tpl
this is the template for all pages using matrix theme.
if you need a php include, do {php}include('file.php');{/php}

Thanks, mindless, this has got me going and I'm well on the way :-)

It occurs to me that the ideal result would be to place an included nav file in the current lefthand column, thus keeping the other blocks available, which would avoid the extra table, and create a righthand column to mirror the lefthand one. However, easier said than done for someone at my level.

BTW, thanks for the PHP include note, elsewhere on the forums there is an incorrect version of this that leaves the original php code in, resulting in double tags and consequent errors; it took me a while to figure out what was going wrong earlier, so your post could be a useful reference for others like me.

So far, all seems to be going fine (another in my series of Famous Last Words), although I am a bit worried about my search engine results when I finally switch over.

Thanks again,

Tony
