I know this is kind of in reverse, but I'm looking at using gallery 2 at a newspaper and we want to offer a community announcement type of gallery...Basically, you upload what photo you want, we approve, and you pay a fee for a set period of time to display the photo...

Thoughts?

Sounds like an interesting idea! Is it like paid image hosting, where you'd put the image up and then anyone could link to it and/or use it on their page? Or are they paying you to put the image on YOUR main page or something?

It might depend on a lot of factors, but I am not sure I can see the popularity of a "pay to host a single picture" service, unless there is something about the service I am totally missing? There are so many free photo hosting services already, web space is very cheap... is it the publicity that would be the drawing factor?

And why are you posting here? Are you seeking help creating a module to help you accomplish this? Get comments on the ideas? You might want to ask a more detailed question :)

Maybe with a combination between Paypall and Gallery2? Look for other projects on sourceforge, coz i see them often there. My 2 cents :)

The idea is Celebrate....Your Town. You can make your announcement (Birthday, anniversary, wedding, work party, etc) on a website that's promoted by your local newspaper/magazine/etc. Kind of like a forum for your announcment, but categories and the reason to put payment is so you don't have just anything going up there...

I can integrate PayPal pretty easily...several people have done this already...but it's all on the download.

I've also looked at a way to hack the base code, but, like's been mentioned in other threads here, it would be much better to do this via module.

Ah, so your service would be used by real, print news papers. People would pay to have an image and some text which would run in a print news paper, but you would use G2 as the backend in some way. So the G2 is only really used for collection of payment, image and perhaps the "blurb" of text to go along with it right? Then it'd be retrieved by the print newspaper in some way and run?

This sounds like a very interesting idea.

When you say it's all in the download, you mean the image has to be 'approved', or authenticated, before payment is exacted?

Appears you never got a answer ? Thats what I like about forums. You ask a pretty simple question and only get back a lot of questions and no answers.
