With V2 of the Map API there is 2 more zoom levels for Satellite & Hybrid.
With the stock large zoom control the slider gets smaller and the zoom out button goes up as well.
IMO this is not the greatest behavior because if you want to position the map type links below the zoom slider then they might look out of place.

For the custom controls in mapV2 how should these be addressed?
1. Position the zoom in/out buttons above/below the slider and add space (transparent png) for the non existing slide positions.
One above and one below the slider. There would be a gap above and below the slider between the zoom buttons.
These transparent spaces would be taken up with the new larger slider images if the Sat/hyb was selected.
2. Position the slider in a table cell and vertical align center the cell to position the slider between the zoom in/out buttons.
The table cell would be big enough for the larger slider and the slider would center when it is small (map)
Tables? not so good.
3. Do like the stock large control and move the zoom out button up when using the Map type.
This restricts the positioning of other items (map/satellite/hybrid) below the zoom out button.
4. Any ideas that you can come up with?

Im not sure I know what you mean by these options, any way to hack up a quick image with examples of these differant types.

Ok, see the above link again.
It is hard to show the difference in using tables to show positioning but you might get the idea.
It has been hard to position items close to one another and look good in FF and IE on windows.
Don't know about it on a Mac or other OS.
The idea on a table was to position the slider images in the center of a cell (vertically) instead of using Java Script to calculate the number of zoom positions. I got the JS sorted out so perhaps the table idea is moot.
So, I guess the question is; should we position the slider between the zoom in/out or move the zoom out button as the slider grows?
