Gallery version (not just "2"): 2.0 (unpossible)
Module / Theme name & version: Checkout

I just want to know if you need to be logged in to be able to see the "add album to cart" or "add photo to cart" links?

For some reason, they only appear when you are logged in... ?

Take a look at the readme for the module - it sounds like either you haven't granted the "[checkout] Purchase item" permission to "Everybody", or you are using a non-standard theme and you haven't added the "Item Actions" block to the theme anywhere.

For those of you who have this problem and would prefer not to spend your time trying to find the links and instructions...

The readme as far as I can tell is here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Modules:checkout and it says:

Quote:
The Checkout module also creates a new Gallery permission called [checkout] Purchase item. You can specify which items are available for purchase by which users simply by using Gallery's existing permissions framework to set this permission on albums and items.

Now, if you don't know how to change permissions (which I didn't), you can find that by logging in as an Admin (or user with proper permissions) and checking the left side from your Gallery (assuming basic theme). Click 'Edit Permissions'. Now under 'New Group Permission' type in 'Everybody' in the box, select '[Checkout] Purchase Item' from the drop down, and click 'Add Permission'.

Now provided that your theme is allowing it to be shown there's a link to 'add photo to cart' below your images even if you're not logged in.

I hope this helps someone similarly as confused as me just a couple hours ago.

Thanks for this helpful thread and post above, Landis.

What I would like to add for those who, like me, are using a different theme and/or have modified what blocks are displayed or hidden, if you don't see the Edit Permissions option, log in, go to the top level of your site, and at the top right, you'll see "Options". Select it and the block will appear on the left side that contains the "Edit Permissions" option, which you then follow as Landis outlined.

doubly weird... i just changed the options to "redicrect user to cart when adding item" and now if shows everything in there... HOWEVER....there is no link to "cart" anywhere to be seen on the page...so people can't look in the cart without adding something... meh.

You need to add the "View Cart" block to the sidebar in your theme. (Site Admin -> Themes -> Matrix [or whatever]).

What is the problem that is preventing users from clicking "Continue to checkout"?

I am having the same problem. This site is new and being worked on. Web surfers can select a product and view it in their shopping cart. However, I cannot get it to the point of making a purchase. There is no button or link to complete your shopping. Please view the gallery to see what I mean. No need to register. Permissions set to "everybody" for checkout.

I have read discussions here on the forums but none have solved my problem. I just can't get it. Please assist if you're able.

Also, any ideas on how to simplify the shipping option on the back-end (through paypal) is much appreciated. Most products have a different price and potentially will be shipped all over the country.

Thanks in advance.

You still have the Gallery default Cart module installed and activated, rather than the Checkout module (one giveaway is that you have two "add to cart" links). You need to deactivate the built-in cart module, then see what happens.

Thanks all. I deactivated the cart module before but then I lose the "view shopping cart" link for some reason. I tried it again today and the extra "add to cart" link below is gone but my original problem still exists. Shoppers still cannot pay.

You don't have any products/prices defined in the Checkout setup, which is why it won't let you proceed to the checkout. The "View cart" block has vanished because you no longer have it included in the sidebar for your theme (go to Site Admin -> Themes -> Matrix and look at the sidebar blocks that are included).

It's going to be quite difficult for you to set up product names and pricing for your site as you are not selling photos but actual products. You will definitely need to look at using per-item pricing, and you will probably end up with a lot of product names as well.

Have you considered the ZenCart module for this instead of Checkout? I've never used it myself but I seem to recall reading somewhere that it handles products as well as photo sales.

Thanks for your help. I know I'll have a lot of product names, but I'm thinking that I really only need this for the items in the "Aroma Burners" album since it has a lot of them. The other products can simply have a paypal button leading to a paypal invoice. Is this possible even?

The way that I set the pricing was to add "price" and "size" in the custom fields so customers see them immediately. Now the price has to be re-added in the checkout module.

Q1: Is there a way to make the "Description" for each product show up in the shopping cart where the "Title" and "Summary" is? I don't really need the summary to show, just the Description and title.

Q2: I have it all working fine now except the pay by email function. While testing this, I am not receiving an email once the form is filled out by a "Guest" nor am I receiving the actual order in the admin email account.

When logged in as "Admin", I receive the order email as the customer that verifies my order, but nothing comes to the Admin account (don't really need it to but it would be nice).

Thanks all,

Solja~
