Wondering if this is the right script for the job?

I have a client who wants to sell prints and I thought that Gallery 2 would be ideal for her, especially as I see that there is a Pay Pal module and cart module.
Now the questions: My host has Gallery 2.0.2 available through Fantastico.. is this the same most current version out of beta now? Does it include what we will need as far as plug-ins?
I am worried that if we go with G 2.0.2 version, we will have to upgrade when 2.1 goes live for the cart/paypal to keep working, or am I wrong about that?

This is gonna be a simple thumbnail-click to larger image with no commenting and photo detail being used.
Also her thumbs nails will need to be an un-uniform size or sizes as her prints are all different sizes, and she doesn't want the thumbs cropped.

Will I have to make them all myself and upload? or will there be a way that the 'thumb maker' in Gallery will just resize the current print with constraints on?

2.0.2 is the most current version out of beta, but 2.1 will be "live" soon if you can wait a week or two or so. G2 will handle the thumbs just fine automatically, and to get the best working cart/paypal module you will need to stick with the most recent version of G2 (2.1 when it comes out)

So G2.1 is just 2 weeks away from being 'live' and all the bugs worked out?
I don't have the time to deal with tons of 'fixes' on an unstable product for this particular client.
I can probably wait the 2 weeks, but wonder if that is a true time set?

I get from what you are saying that the 'best' cart / pp module will be in G2.1, is that correct?
It seems I have read on these forums that it works great on G 2.0.2 and NOT on G2.1?

there will be a couple of bug fixes that are not yet in cvs for G2.1.

i myself am using g2.1 for my website, and i upgrade every half year or so. it's running fine so far.

So if I set up from Fantastico, Gallery 2.0.2
I will need to do an upgrade within a month or less?
Or will this be stable for some time to come and no upgrade necessary?
And if I do, will it be an easy couple of files upgrade or the whole shebang?
I will be doing customization of templates for site design and stuff, so don't want to make more work for myself.

(I am on dial up (and a very slow dial up) Fantastico offers me one click installation, and not having to download and reupload the whole thing.)

once g2.1 is out (1st week of March) it should be the latest stable version for 6 months or so.

you can easily upload / extract g2 directly on your server with:
