Any way to print Contact Sheets for an Album?

All,

Today I installed Gallery2 without incident from the current (non CVS) tarball to my host provider. It works great, and it very fast, just like I remember version 1 to be.

I'm revisiting Gallery (after more than 3 years) to see if it can do something specific. I've been unable to locate this feature, and I'm rather hoping someone will just say, "Click this, then that, dummy!"

I have a client who would like to be able to upload many photos to a website at once, organized into albums. So far, so good.

He'd like it if a few extra text fields could be associated with each photo. I found that functionality, and it works fine. So far, also, so good.

He'd then like to print up contact sheets with his web browser. He'd love it if photos could automatically be resized, 6 photos per legal-size page, with the extra field printed just beneath each photo. If an album has 12 photos, then 2 pages would print.

I don't see any functionality even remotely like this. Am I missing something? Is there a module that does this? Or am I SOL on this?

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I don't know what a contact sheet is...

But I imagine you could set your theme to display thumbnails in a 3x4 grid (12 thumbs). You could then tweak the theme to *only* display your single custom field (or just the "caption" field or just the "date" field...). Then, all the user has to do is print the page. Some of the themes have a "detail | summary" link which when pressed show / hide more detail. You could modify this to read something like "contact | normal" and then when contact is clicked you would hide as much of the G2 UI as feasibly possible and when "normal" is clicked you'd go back to normal mode.

So that certainly is *possible*, but it isn't super simple. You can get *close* to it pretty easily and you can get even closer with a little bit of learning themes. For an example of the "detail | summary" link, you can visit my gallery (or anyone else running the wordpress theme (and maybe other themes, but I am not sure)). Of course, mine doesn't do what YOU want, but I think it could be relativly easily modified to do so.
