Matrix tweak : ItemLink with no line breaks in photo page

This is my first time tweaking an existing theme. I made some changes to the Matrix theme which are mostly working after trial and error. But I snagged upon a problem I do not understand : the ItemLink list appears with no line breaks in the photo page although it appears correctly in the album page.

Now the strange part is that in both those pages the ItemLink list is part of the sidebar, so it is actually the exact same code. I checked the context of the sidebar inclusion and it also looks identical. I am puzzled.

Does anyone have a clue what might be causing the same ItemLink code to render differently in two seemingly identical contexts ?

I do not yet understand how line breaking is controlled in such cases.

I am using Gallery 2.0.4-1 from Debian with Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1
